Shabbat is Central

January 2, 2019 | Programs and Events

In this new year, we continue our Joy is Central series and invite you to lean into Shabbat. Join us on Friday, January 25, where we hope to engage all ages in one of our special Shabbat is Central  dinners or events. Additionally, we encourage you to choose one thing that will make Shabbat feel special this month; attend our Friday night services, light candles, bake challah, or even use Shabbat as a time to “unplug,” as Rabbi Buchdahl explains in her video below. Don’t worry – you don’t have to do it all – choose what works for you.

Want your own cell phone sleeping bag? Join us at Friday night Shabbat services this month, and you will receive one compliments of Central (while supplies last).

Shabbat is Central Events
Friday, January 25

1) Shabbat is Central  Shabbat Dinners: Central Synagogue members are opening their homes to host Shabbat dinners throughout New York City, and you are invited. Members of all ages, across the congregation, will experience the joy of Shabbat together. Click here to explore and find the right dinner for you. Please register by January 18.

Would you like to host a dinner? It’s not too late. You can still sign up to host a dinner in your home and bring joy to others. You can choose to invite people you know, or use the opportunity to meet new friends and faces – it’s up to you. Sign-up here. Hosts will receive a bag of Shabbat essentials to enhance your experience, including a beautiful set of blessing cards designed by Central clergy and an Israeli artist.

2) 20s & 30s Shabbat: Join us for a warm and fun Shabbat evening. The event will include drinks and schmoozing, a short creative service, and a delicious dinner. Join our 20s & 30s listserv for more details, or please email [email protected] with any questions.

3) Shabbat Central: Kids ages 0-5 and their families will join together for song, prayer, movement, stories, and fun in our Community House Lobby at 5:00 pm. Following the service, a light meal will be served. For more information, visit here.
