We remember that 79 years ago, on November 9th and 10th, the Nazi party, alongside regular civilians, engaged in a series of coordinated pogroms against Jews in Germany and Austria in an evening we now call Kristallnach, the night of broken glass. German authorities looked on without intervening.

It remains one of the single worst days in modern Jewish history. We vow to remember those whose lives were lost and the communities that were forever changed that day and we equally vow to do whatever is within our power to never again allow innocents to experience a similar tragedy. Never again. We will and we do remember.

“We had nowhere to go. We lost everything except the hope that we could rebuild our lives by acquiring education. No other country but Germany was offering it.” These were the thoughts of Dr. Marcel Tuchman, a Holocaust survivor who lit the Yahrzeit Candle on Shabbat, on what to do with his life after being forced into a Concentration Camp. Following the Holocaust, Tuchman went back to Germany to become a doctor since Germany was the only nation offering free education to survivors.
