Central Synagogue Board Chooses Next Senior Rabbi for Congregational Approval

December 3, 2013 | General News

Central Synagogue’s board of trustees has enthusiastically recommended that Rabbi Angela Warnick Buchdahl succeed Rabbi Peter J. Rubinstein as the congregation’s next Senior Rabbi. Buchdahl, who is both an ordained rabbi and cantor, has served as Senior Cantor of the congregation since 2007. The board’s recommendation was shared with the congregation via email this morning and will be followed by a January vote by the members.

“As our next Senior Rabbi, Rabbi Buchdahl will further Central’s mission of working tirelessly toward a world in which Judaism is central to the lives of Jews everywhere and is a profound and positive force for humanity,” wrote Board President David B. Edelson in his email to the congregation. “With Rabbi Buchdahl as our spiritual leader, we look forward to Central’s bright next chapter, one in which, together, we continue to deepen our engagement and connectivity as a community.”

In March, Rabbi Rubinstein announced his intention to step aside at the end of June 2014 after 23 years as Senior Rabbi.
