The Tzedek Box

December 21, 2022 | General News | Programs and Events

A few months ago, you may have found a mysterious rectangular package from Central Synagogue in your mailbox. That is your Tzedek Box, a new ritual object that every member of Central Synagogue received to inspire righteousness and justice this year. Every time you take an action to improve our world — whether that’s volunteering, advocacy, making a donation, or engaging in listening and learning — you can reflect on the experience by adding a journal entry to the box. Learn more in the below special message from Rabbi Angela Buchdahl.

Do you want to fill up your box along with Rabbi Buchdahl and our community this year? If you haven't already, make sure you officially register your Tzedek Box to receive communications about special programming and opportunities from now until our culminating event on May 4, 2023.

For more information on how to make this ritual your own, please check the instructions that accompanied your Tzedek Box. You can even download pre-made slips to help you with your reflections. Don't forget to save the date for May 4, 2023, when we’ll gather to review our journal entries and rededicate ourselves to building a better world. We’re excited to share this meaningful new ritual with you, which underlines our belief that Jewish life doesn’t only take place in our Sanctuary, but in the way we move through and uplift our world.

In case you missed it, check out the below recording from our Tzedek Box Kickoff S'lichot event that occurred in September, where Rabbi Nicole Auerbach and Rabbic Intern Andrew Kaplan Mandel explain some of the depth behind the Tzedek Box's reflective process.

Do you want to get more involved? Use your voice to call for justice and join Central Rabbinic Intern Andrew Kaplan Mandel, leaders Dena Robinson and Darin Lim Yankowitz, and special musical guests to explore music, learning, and opportunities to repair the world at monthly Virtual Tzedek Circles. These events always occur on Sundays at 8:00 pm over Zoom.

Upcoming Tzedek Circle Dates:
Sunday, January 15, 2023, 8:00 pm
Sunday, February 5, 2023, 8:00 pm
Sunday, March 5, 2023, 8:00 pm
Sunday, April 2, 2023, 8:00 pm
