Relationships are Central

March 7, 2019 | Programs and Events

With the arrival of the Hebrew month of Adar, we aim to increase our joy. Continuing our monthly series, we invite you to find greater joy by investing in relationships. Rabbi Ari Lorge explains in the video below, that all relationships exist on a spectrum. Some bring happiness and others may be detrimental. With that in mind, we challenge you to reflect on your relationships. Invest time and care to those that bring you happiness and fulfillment, and know there are resources to help if you find yourself in relationships that harm. This month, Relationships are Central, Joy is Central.

If you feel some of the relationships in your life could benefit from some guidance and support, here are four resources to consider:

1) On Tuesday, March 26, at 6:00 pm, join us for An Evening of Cartoons and Conversation with The New Yorker’s Roz Chast, author of Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?, a memoir chronicling her experiences and her relationship with her aging parents. The evening will include a discussion and Q&A sure to offer both comfort and comic relief to anyone dealing with this challenging stage of life.

2) Read The New York Times Modern Love essay about the 36 questions that lead to love.

3) Loveisrespect.org is a website that helps to engage, educate, and empower young people in order to prevent and end abusive relationships. It includes anonymous chat and call resources, as well as great quizzes for relationships. The National Domestic Violence Hotline offers lifesaving tools and immediate support to enable victims to find safety and live lives free of abuse.

4) Watch our own Central Synagogue LCLJ students talk about how Central provides them a foundation that has allowed friendships to blossom and grow:
