How to Help: LA Fires
January 15, 2025 | General News | Repairing the World
All of us at Central Synagogue are devastated to witness the destructive fires ravaging Los Angeles neighborhoods. Since the year began, more than 23,000 acres have burned, and entire homes, buildings, and communities have been reduced to ashes and rubble–including the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center, a hundred-year-old congregation destroyed by the Eaton fire.
The fires are not yet contained, and Los Angeles will be focused on rebuilding in the months and years to come. In crises such as these, the Central community is called to help.
Central has so far donated $10,000 to affected Jewish organizations. Below are some trusted resources and organizations to donate to and find updated information about immediate needs, relief efforts and other ways to get involved.
The Jewish Federation of Los Angeles is leading a coordinated effort to respond to this crisis and providing financial assistance, mental health support and legal services to victims, as well as addressing other emergency needs, such as support for firefighters and first responders.
Stephen Wise Temple is organizing several volunteer and donation opportunities, including a focus on helping children affected by the fires and collecting donations for new pairs of shoes.
- Central’s Emergency Relief Fund provides critical support to those impacted by large-scale emergencies and disasters.
