Food is Central

The first of our Joy is Central events focused on the Jewish emphasis on joy through eating and food. As King Solomon reminded us: “So I recommend rejoicing in life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and rejoice.” (Ecclesiastes 8:15)

Our community came together to celebrate how food brings us joy with award-winning Israeli chef Michael Solomonov, and his business partner, famed restaurateur Steve Cook, for the book launch of their new cookbook, Israeli Soul. Their first cookbook, Zahav, was a trailblazing exploration of the many flavors of Israel and was named the James Beard Best International Cookbook. This new book explores how the experience of eating and breaking bread with others can be a sacred form of connection.
