Shabbat and Schmooze

At Central Synagogue

Expand the Joy of Shabbat This Summer

Virtual Shabbat Groups for Adults and Families

While the concept of “coming together” has seen seismic shifts in the last few months, the need for us to connect with one another around Shabbat has not. And from the number of challahs we’re seeing on social media, we know that experiencing Shabbat at home has been increasingly meaningful to many of you.

With this is in mind, this summer we are launching a community initiative called “Shabbat and Schmooze” as a chance for us to regularly connect with fellow congregants around Shabbat for six consecutive weeks. This experience is open to all Central Synagogue members, our 20s & 30s community, and students from our Center for Exploring Judaism program.

These groups are open to ALL—singles, couples, families, children, young professionals—and everyone is encouraged to participate. Groups will be led by congregants. Join a group with existing Central friends or use this as an opportunity to create new connections. We want to make these groups a space for YOU. Groups will meet weekly, and their start date for each are included in descriptions below. We ask that you sign up by Wednesday, July 1.
So have a look at our offerings below and we’ll see you this summer.

Interested in hosting the virtual group?

In addition to choosing a group, we are also actively seeking leaders/hosts for each group. As a leader, you will be responsible for setting up the Zoom meeting each week, emailing the group a reminder with the link, and sharing any discussion prompts with your group. Central will share all discussion guides and prompts with you. Don't worry, you do not need to put anything together yourself. If you are interested in leading/facilitating you can indicate that in the form.
