Virtual Course: Hybrids and Heretics: A History of Jewish Deviance

Tuesdays, August 10–31, 2021, 3:00–4:00 pm

Virtual

Explore an earlier period of intense change, the early modern period, and consider examples of Jews pushing the boundaries of identity and creating new forms of Jewish culture. Among the new movements that deviated from "normative" Judaism, we will consider how conversoism, sabbatianism, and the ghetto blurred boundaries between Judaism and Christianity, and ultimately helped fashion the Jewish world as we know it today. Taught by Rabbi Joe Skloot, PhD, who grew up in the Central community.
