“Unweavings: Laurie Wohl’s Spiritual Narratives”

Every Friday Beginning January 14, 2023, 7:15–8:00 pm and Every Wednesday Beginning April 19, 2023, 12:30–2:00 pm

In Person (Pavilion)

Artist Laurie Wohl’s unique “unweavings” exist at the intersection of art and worship, text and textile. Experience the celebrated artist’s visual interpretations of Jewish life, wisdom, prayer, and music with pieces from two series: The Meditation Project (a manifestation of Rabbi Angela Buchdahl’s virtual meditation practice at Central Synagogue during the pandemic) and The Shabbat Project (inspired by Shabbat services).

“By unweaving the fabric, I make manifest what is hidden within the material – liberating the threads to create shape, then “reweaving” through color, texture, and text... And the pieces become carriers of my individual and our collective memories through the spiritual narratives they transmit.” - Artist Laurie Wohl

Public viewing hours for this exhibition are Fridays from 7:15-8:00 pm (following Shabbat services) and Wednesdays from 12:30-2:00 pm in the Pavilion, located in the Sanctuary building (652 Lexington Avenue; entrance on 55th Street). The exhibition will be open until July 3.

For viewing requests outside of public hours and more information, please contact Rabbi Sarah Berman ([email protected]).
