The New Jew : Screening and Creators’ Talkback

Thursday, October 21, 2021, 7:00–8:30 pm

In Person & Virtual

What happens when Israel’s most famous comedian comes to the United States to learn about American Judaism? You get a hit Israeli television series called The New Jew, that entertains and upends expectations. Meet Guri Alfi, the star of The New Jew, and series creators Asaf Nawi and Moshe Samuels as they join Central Synagogue’s Rabbi Angela Buchdahl and Romemu’s Rabbi David Ingber to screen select clips from the show and discuss the ways it’s changing the conversation in Israel about American Judaism. Central Synagogue and Rabbi Buchdahl are prominently featured in the first episode.

Join us in person at Central Synagogue (limited capacity) or online through Zoom. Members, please check your email for the registration link. Please select your preferred method when registering. Please note, attending in person will require proof of vaccination upon entry, and all attendees must remain masked for the full duration of the program.

The series was produced for the Public Broadcasting Corporation in Israel, with support from the UJA Federation New York.

This event is made possible through a partnership between UJA-Federation of New York, Central Synagogue, and Romemu.
