Last year, on October 27, we witnessed unspeakable horror at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue. The murder of 11 innocent Jews at prayer represented the worst of humanity.
The following weekend, we saw a better side, when millions of people of all faiths rallied around AJC’s #ShowUpForShabbat initiative, packing synagogues in what became the largest-ever expression of solidarity with the American Jewish community. At Central Synagogue’s Friday night Shabbat service, we had a full house.
On the one-year anniversary of this event, we come together once again to #ShowUpForShabbat, honor the victims, and raise our collective voice for a world free of anti-Semitism, hate and bigotry.
Join Central Synagogue and show your support for the #ShowUpForShabbat initiative; all are welcome, those of all faiths, and those of none.
You can also join us on Sunday, October 27 from 10:00-11:00 am to take action and show support on Day of Action Against Anti-Semitism. We are honored to be hosting a special commemoration event that will mark the anniversary of the Tree of Life shooting, honor the victims, and declare of Day of Action Against Anti-Semitism. The event will bring together members of faith communities and cultural organizations, public officials, including Attorney General Letitia James, and special invited guests, as well as many others, with some still to be confirmed. Our partners in this event include AJC New York, the UJA Federation of New York, the Jewish Community Relations Council, and a large number of Jewish congregations and organizations.
Attendees must register in advance.
