Rabbi Beth Kalisch and three students from her Friday morning Talmud class participated in an outdoor Rosh Chodesh service in Madison Square Park on Friday, May 10 in support of the women in Israel who are fighting to conduct egalitarian services at the Kotel (the Western Wall).

A Look at Our History: May 2013

Central Synagogue’s Archives has some unusual photos. This one is of a championship rugby team of 1919.


Here is a fine team with their coach, their gear, and their big winners’ smiles. Or could they be a basketball team, using the laced ball of that time, suited for a game featuring passing than dribbling?


We do not know what F stands for. Do you? The following year’s uniforms are marked FM. Was it basketball or rugby? Whom and where did they play?
