Sahra and William Lese Religious School

In sixth grade, students will explore their personal Jewish identity. By specifically studying the Holocaust and the founding of the state of Israel, our students will recognize that in order to understand who we are as members of today’s American Jewish community, we must understand our Jewish history and the impact that it has on us today. As the theme of sixth grade is Chazak Chazak v’Nitchazek (be strong, be strong, and may we be strengthened), we will look at the ways in which Jews have persevered by overcoming obstacles and how our community has been strengthened in the process.

Each January, 6th grade families, teachers and clergy join together for the Masah Mitzvah retreat - an opportunity for learning and community building as you approach the milestone of bar and bat mitzvah. At this overnight, families will share in the celebration of Shabbat, together with our clergy and Religious School staff and faculty, and embark on the b’nei mitzvah experience as a community.
