Sahra and William Lese Religious School

During the sixth grade, we discuss the history of the Shoah (the Holocaust) and the establishment of the State of Israel, from its early Zionist roots to its modern day manifestation. We approach these topics incorporating the experiences of various giborim (heroes) from their respective eras. The concept of being a gibor is further enforced in the students' individual Mitzvah Projects. These endeavors, inspired by the great acts of the giborim of the past, encourage each student to take responsibility in the world. Each student thoroughly investigates, chooses and commits to a meaningful volunteer experience. Throughout the year, we place a consistent emphasis on mastering Hebrew reading ability and comprehension of key Hebrew concepts.
