In fifth grade, students will explore the story of the growth and development of Am Yisrael, the people of Israel. By drawing on select stories and lessons from the prophets (Nevi’im) and writings (Ketuvim), we will lead the students through the many different forms of community, society, worship and conceptions of God that the Israelite people formed in the course of the Tanakh. We will learn about the constructions and destructions of the Temple and continue on into the Diaspora, looking back to the Torah as the consistent root of Jewish culture, religion, and justice throughout the ages.

In November of the 5th Grade year, parents and students come together with both the Religious School faculty and the clergy in a meaningful session dedicated to thinking about bar/bat mitzvah – what it means, why it matters and what are our commitments as families to Jewish engagement and education throughout and following this process.
