Sahra and William Lese Religious School

The Goal of the Gan (Kindergarten) curriculum is to provide a base set of knowledge for our students that will act as a foundation for their developing Jewish cultural literacy in subsequent years. Important and age-appropriate Jewish vocabulary will be documented in personalized vocabulary binders, to be used as reinforcement and review throughout the school year. Jewish symbols and sacred objects will become familiar and meaningful to students: Mezuzot, Shabbat candle sticks and Kiddish cup, Torah, Menorah, Israeli flag, and Magen David. The concept of performing mitzvot will first be studied broadly, then specifically chosen mitzvot will be experienced in greater detail. Major Jewish holidays will be studied and celebrated chronologically, in an age-appropriate significant manner. This year students will also begin learning the Alef-Bet in order to practice rudimentary reading skills in Hebrew.
