Wisdom Literature

Wed. April 7, 1:00pm – 2:00pm
Location: Room 503 - Community House

David Hoffman, Full Time Teacher

Delve into a multitude of Jewish texts to find and analyze the words of wisdom that have helped form the character of the Jewish people for thousands of years and still influence us today.  Together, we will look at excerpts from the Torah, the books of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes, as well as Pirkei Avot (The Sayings of the Fathers), and other lesser known pieces of wisdom literature, hoping to find connections and relationships between what the sources of our religion have taught us in terms of how to live in our world.  Since we will be looking at Hebrew texts with various translations, comfort with the Hebrew language is not required but would have a positive impact on our conversations.
