This series will explore contemporary Israeli culture through film (with English subtitles). Guided by Professor Miri Kubovy, participants will study the most important social and political issues in Israel today including: the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Ashkenazi-Sephardi tension, poverty, attitude towards the army, the Holocaust, feminism, religious and secular population,
the return to religion, the settlements, national and personal bereavement, foreign workers, “the other” ideology and its rejection, and Americanization in Israeli culture. Among those films to be screened are: Shiva, Avivah My Love and Yellow Asphalt.
