Dear Central Synagogue:
I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for your generous gift to the Jewish soldiers here at Camp Victory, Iraq. I serve as the Lay Leader for our Jewish community, and it never ceases to warm my heart to see the outreach that the Jewish community back home makes to us.
Certainly, in what is otherwise an often unpleasant environment here, gestures such as yours not only bring us a little bit of home, but also serve to remind us of the tight-knit community that we belong to. Much as soldiers and civilians who come together on the Shabbos have become every bit of a small family, so many congregations and Jewish organizations back home have gone out of their way to make sure that we know that we have an extended family who cares about us.
I have been here for almost 10 months and I look forward to returning home in another couple of months (Hashem willing, in time for Pesach). While one is here, time moves incredibly slowly - however, when one looks back on it, it seems like it has passed in the twinkling of an eye. It is hard to believe that Purim is already upon us! To all of you, I wish happy and healthy holidays, and thank you again for sending along your kind gifts!
B’Shalom
