Secrets from Marketing Stars: How to Get Work, Keep Work and Reinvent Yourself When Necessary

Thursday, February 11, 6:30-8:30pm
Location: Rooms 902 & 903

No one’s career moves straight up. While there are lots of people who look as if they have continually improved their job responsibilities, titles and compensation, you can be sure they’ve had at the least, a hiccup along the way.  The challenge is not how one reacts and behaves during the good times, but more importantly how one behaves and moves forward in the more challenging times. Central members Valerie Salembier and Paul Block, husband and wife, will talk about skills for successful career management, the profound disappointments and wounds that come up along the way, the realities of reinvention, the importance of building and nurturing relationships at all levels, resilience, and most of all, lessons learned. They will answer questions, too.

Valerie Salembier is Senior Vice-President and Publisher of Hearst Corporation’s Harper’s Bazaar.  Previously, she had been Vice President and Publisher of Hearst’s Esquire Magazine.  Prior to joining Hearst in 1996, Ms. Salembier had been Senior Vice President of the New York Times, President of the New York Post, Publisher of TV Guide Magazine and Senior Vice-President at USA Today.

Paul J. Block is an Operating Partner at Behrman Capital and Chairman and CEO of Proteus Capital Associates, LLC, an investment-banking firm focused on investment opportunities in China. Previously, he
was the Chairman and President of the international division of a leading consumer products company. He has also advised several of the world’s largest retailers, financial institutions, insurance companies, private equity groups, and consumer products manufacturers on a series of projects ranging from global strategic development to their expansion into the Chinese market.
