Inspired by artist Judy Chicago’s Dinner Party, an installation on permanent exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum, join us to hear the glorious voices of Jewish women – including Cantor Buchdahl and Cantor Sacks – who will present familiar and not so familiar seder melodies. Clergy Film Series: “Pray The Devil Back To Hell”Adult Education Events Thursday March 11, 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm Rabbi Mo Salth Pray the Devil Back to Hell chronicles the remarkable story of the courageous Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their shattered country. Thousands of women — ordinary mothers, grandmothers, aunts and daughters, both Christian and Muslim — came together to pray for peace and then staged a silent protest outside of the Presidential Palace. Armed only with white T-shirts and the courage of their convictions, they demanded a resolution to the country’s civil war. Their actions were a critical element in bringing about a agreement during the stalled peace talks. A story of sacrifice, unity and transcendence, Pray the Devil Back to Hell honors the strength and perseverance of the women of Liberia. Inspiring, uplifting, and most of all motivating, it is a compelling testimony of how grassroots activism can alter the history of nations. Pathways to Jewish Knowledge Pathways to Jewish KnowledgeAdult Education Events Tuesday March 16, 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm Yonni Wattenmaker, Director of Lifelong Learning and Marion Lev Cohen, MSW and Rabbinical Intern For many of us, our formal Jewish education ended with our Bar or Bat Mitzvah, leaving us with a child’s view of our religion and one of the world’s greatest civilizations. As adults we approach Judaism asking how it can enrich our lives today, with a desire for Judaic competency and literacy. Pathways to Jewish Knowledge will address these twin goals of thought and practice. We will explore Jewish life cycle events, holidays, theological precepts and prayer, starting with the fundamentals and beyond. We aspire to create a community of learners committed to learning and respectful dialogue. Please bring lunch with you.
